Sean Thomson @ Ford; coat by Rachel Comey; jacket by Dries Van Noten; jeans by South Willard
I could shoot Ford’s Sean Thomson until the cows come home. Pardon the pun, but it’s easy to imagine shooting Sean a hundred different ways. By any standard, this nineteen-year-old has a perfect face, and – in and of itself – a perfect face should be enough. But what sets Sean apart from a gazillion other perfect faces is his ability to channel exactly what you’re aiming for, and to inspire you to take it further.

I’ve been in a cowboy mood since January, but when I decided to shoot Sean, it was with the aim of creating something resembling a suite of film stills from a Western that might have been shot by Carl Theodore Dryer….at least that’s what was in my mind’s eye. My bestie, set designer Thomas Thurnauer (Supercube) gave up his Memorial Day to build flats for an editorial I was shooting the following week; last Tuesday I recovered and re-purposed a few for this shoot with Sean. For all of the effort, it was a completely effortless shoot. Sean did all the work….all I had to do was brainstorm ideas with him and then snap away as he did his thing (and rarely did we shoot more than 20 frames of any given look). Thanks Sean – and don’t be a stranger…
